Dream bedroom
When I was little (younger and much smaller) I desperately wanted a white bedroom suite, not too twee ('not a Sindy bedroom' I told my parents), but definately a white wardrobe, dressing table and bed. So it seems my love of interior styling started pretty early. One year for my birthday (my 12th I think), my incredibly generous parents bought me not one but two wardrobes (one with 3 drawers at the bottom) with top-box and a central section that worked as a dressing table (and later as my desk on which to do my homework) and a fold-up chair. My father painted my bedside and a small cupboard to match and voila, my dreamy white bedroom suite!
They redecorated my bedroom in 'sorched earth' colour paint (the darkest brown you can get before you call it black) with one wall in a brown and shiny gold patterned wallpaper and I chose a deep brown carpet to finish the look. Wow, an accent wall back in the 1970's, my parents were so ahead of their time!
As we moved house, the furniture and carpet came with us. Sadly, whilst going through my hippie phase during my teens, I spilt a whole bottle of concentrated patchouli oil on that carpet. Of course, because the carpet was dark brown the spilt oil didn't show, but boy oh boy, that fragrance never seemed to leave the room and even today, if I smell patchouli I want to run for the hills! Oh I digress again, back to the white bedroom furniture... eventually I left my parents' house to make my way in the world and they moved home and the furniture didn't move with them.
Recently I came across some bedroom furniture, which we will soon be stocking in the shop, that reminded me of how special that bedroom was to me. Having a space that was 'mine' was a precious gift.
So these pictures show you some of the furniture that will be arriving with us very soon, I am pleased to be able to imagine just how thrilled the next generation of little girls will be to have such a pretty bedroom suite.Chat soon, Liz
